Turbulence in Bay of Bengal converts in to a low pressure zone

The disturbance in the Bay of Bengal has intensified in to a low pressure area and now located to the southeast of Sri Lanka. The MET Department stated that under the influence of the system showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue. Possibility for strong winds over the sea areas around the island is also high. Showers or thundershowers will be experienced over most parts of the island and heavy falls are also likely at some places. Meanwhile, sluice gates of Lunugam-wehera, Raajaanganaya and Thabbowa Tanks have been opened due to the rising water levels following heavy showers. Our correspondents stated that low lying areas in Puttlam, Chillaw and Aarachchi-Kattuwa were also inundated.
